Infectious diseases are considered contagious or communicable, which means that they can be passed from
person to person. Hand hygiene is therefore a key component of infection prevention.
Examples of common infectious diseases include seasonal flu, tuberculosis and infectious diseases associated with travel such as typhoid and yellow fever.
