About Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a symptom connected to a range of other conditions in which a sudden burst of excess electricity in the brain causes a fit or seizure. Idiopathic (primary) epilepsy is likely to have a genetic cause and symptomatic epilepsy is related to a known cause, such as some long term neurological conditions, head injuries, infectious conditions, problems during birth and drug and alcohol abuse.
Epilepsy can begin at any age and affects both males and females. It is most often diagnosed before the age of 18 or after the age of 65. Many people who develop epilepsy before the age of 20 are not affected as an adult.
