Background
NHS Oxfordshire published its plan for taking forward the recommendations made by the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP) in relation to paediatric services, obstetrics, gynaecology and the special care baby unit at the Horton General Hospital, Banbury in April 2008. It was informed by the views of some of the key stakeholders who have taken time to share their thoughts on how this should be done.
The IRP’s review gave the PCT the opportunity to make a fresh start on planning health services for the future for the people of Banbury and surrounding areas, taking account of the factors mentioned above. The IRP recognised the important role played by the Horton General Hospital in delivering local health services but acknowledged that ‘changes will be necessary to ensure its services remain appropriate, safe and sustainable’.
At every stage the PCT’s plans have been developed with the full involvement of those who may be affected by them, and at key points will be subject to wider public consultation.
