Community Services
Introduction To Community services
Community Services can include things like district nurses, health visitors, therapists, specialist nurses, school nurses and community hospital staff. They provide services, within patient's homes, at GP surgeries, at community hospitals or through Primary Care Trust (PCT) premises across Oxfordshire.
Many people who become unwell begin their treatment by accessing the services we provide, or commission, in the community via their family doctor (GP). Changes to the way in which the NHS delivers services mean that many services that were once provided by big hospitals, are increasingly being provided in community settings and in the home. Advances in medical technology, and a wider range of staffing expertise in primary care - including GPs and nurses with special interests - mean that more can be done outside a hospital environment.
