Community Mental Health Services

Mental Health Commissioning in Oxfordshire

NHS Oxfordshire and Oxfordshire County Council have launched a county-wide plan to talk to local people about their ideas. This is a powerful way to enable service users, carers, members of the public and local organisations that provide mental health services or have an interest in mental health, to have a say in the way local mental health services are shaped and provided. Mental Health Services

A range of mental health services are provided across the county by a variety of organisations. Specialist services are provided by Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (external link) and include a range of community services as well as inpatient facilities. Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health Partnership is now an NHS Foundation Trust. They hope that many local residents will join them, and participate in their decision making and planning. The Oxfordshire Mental health Information website is an online database which aims to provide accessible information about local mental health services. This database is run in partnership between two local mental health charities, Oxfordshire Mind and Oxfordshire Mental Health Matters, which both have a track record of providing information services.

The county council also run a number of services, as do a significant number of voluntary organisations. These range from information and advice services, to day centres and residential accommodation.

Primary Care (GPs and other members of the primary care team) play a significant role in supporting individuals with mild to moderate mental health problems and also act as the gateway to the more specialist services provided by the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. If you need to access these services, you need to visit your GP.

The following booklet was produced to make it easier for people to find and directly access the help and support they think they might need.  It aims to give enough explanation of what services offer and enough contact information to enable the user to follow up a number of routes to obtain the information they require.  Although the target group is anyone seeking information or support around for mental health issues, it is a guide that could be used by a wider audience equally as well.
