Community Children's Nursing Service

The Community Children's Nursing Service is a well established team of experienced Children's Nurses many of whom have a community qualification. The nurses have direct involvement with a child, helping parents provide treatment, and monitoring progress. We aim to work in partnership with the family and other professionals who may be involved in supporting the family.

The Community Children's Nursing Services includes:

Community Children's nurses
Children's Respite nurses
Clinical Nurse Specialists in Special schools
Shared Care Protocols Training Coordinator
Community Play Specialist

Community Children's Nurses

Who can we help?

We support families with a child or children whose condition requires nursing advice and support, and whose General Practitioner belongs to Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust

For example the child:

May be technology dependant e.g. home ventilation / oxygen therapy
May require complex drugs regimes
May require intravenous drug regimes
May suffer from chronic constipation
May have severe eczema
May have complex feeding regimes
May have a chronic illness, special and /or complex health needs

We also provide:

Palliative care and care of of dying child
Bereavement visits
Any nursing procedure that can be safely undertakenÂ at home
Provide training to carers, from any organisation who are involved in the care of the child

What can we do?

We aim to support families by:

Preventing or reducing hospitalisation for children and their families
Provide nursing care, by children’s trained nurses, in the childs home and other community settings
Support the family and other carersto promote independence as far as possible
Support the family to adjust to life at home with an ill child / child with continuing complex health needs
