Gender Equality
Gender equality should mean that women, men and transgender people get services that meet their needs more closely. They should have the same access to job opportunities at the same rate of pay (relative to experience and qualifications), the same access to services and should not be discriminated against because of their caring responsibilities and have the same opportunities to develop careers and still have a family/home life.
It is important to:
- recognise men, women and transgender people all have different needs in healthcare
- make flexible working real for all parents and carers
How can Gender Equality make a difference?
- by achieving equal health outcomes for men and women and transgender people
- by targeting resources to meet the needs of men, women and transgender people as identified by people in our local community
What are some of the things that we are currently doing to promote Gender Equality?
- We have a flexible working policy to take account of people with childcare and other caring commitments
- We are running a series of Men’s Health events in Men’s Health Week
What are some of the things that we are planning to do to promote Gender Equality?
- We will review our funding policy for people with gender dysphoria following an update on the evidence
- We will run training around the different health needs of men, women and transgender people
- We will continue to run targeted Men’s Health events
The Equalities Scheme
Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust has a clear commitment to providing equality of access to the information, services and employment that we provide. The single Equalities Scheme lays out how we intend to take the needs of men, women and transgender people into account in everything we do, whether that is providing or commissioning services, employing people, developing policies or communicating with people. This Scheme is a public document which sets out our vision and intentions around promoting disability equality.
Responsibility for gender equality sits with everyone. The work is steered by the Equality & Diversity group which is a sub committee of the PCT board.
To obtain a copy of the Scheme in other formats, such as Easy Read or Large Print please contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Services Manager at Oxfordshire PCT on 0800 052 6088 or pals@oxfordshire.nhs.uk
