Scrutiny
Local accountability is achieved via NHS Oxfordshire’s Trust Board, which includes local clinicians, managers and lay people. NHS Oxfordshire is also accountable within the NHS to the South Central Strategic Health Authority and Oxfordshire County Council’s Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
The NHS is obliged to consult the Oxfordshire Joint Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OJHOSC) on any substantial changes it wants to make to local health services. It also has a wider responsibility to involve and consult the public.
The NHS Plan
The NHS Plan established the government’s clear intention to place patients at the heart of the NHS and to give patient’s more power, protection and choice than ever before. Section 11 of the Health & Social Care Act places a duty on PCTs to involve and consult patients and the public.
Get Involved
Members of the public can become involved in the NHS in a number of ways. See the section Patient Matters for more information about how you can get involved.
