Major Incident Plan
NHS Oxfordshire has a Major Incident Plan that details how the PCT will respond to an emergency. The plan aims to bring co-ordination and professionalism to the often unpredictable and complicated events of a major incident such as a serious road traffic accident involving multiple fatalities or toxic chemical incident which could have major health implications for the local community.
The purpose of planning for emergencies is to ensure that as an organisation we can provide an effective response to any major incident or emergency and to ensure that the organisation returns to normal services as quickly as possible.
The emergency planning and public health response lead for NHS Oxfordshire is Dr Jonathan McWilliam, Director of Public Health for Oxfordshire. He has responsibility for reviewing the PCT’s Major Incident Plan and for exercises and training to support the actions that staff may have to carry out in the event of a major incident.
