NHS Oxfordshire Overview
NHS Oxfordshire is a Primary Care Trust (PCT) and serves a population of around 672,700 and controls a budget of £898m.
It commissions services from an increasingly diverse range of providers, which include; major health providers within the County and elsewhere; directly provided services; other public sector bodies and from a range of independent sector organisations.
It also contracts primary care services from independent contractors, including 83 GP practices, 98 pharmacies, 100 dental practices and 75 optometry practices.
NHS Oxfordshire has a workforce of approximately 2,500 staff.

NHS Oxfordshire also provides:
- nine community hospitals
- adult’s and children’s nursing and therapy services
- health visiting
- sexual health services
- out of hours care
Some of these services are formally integrated with other public sector bodies, some working to single management structures.

- Oxfordshire County Council
- Five District Councils including Cherwell, Oxford City, South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse, and West Oxfordshire
- Thames Valley police functions are managed locally through Oxfordshire Basic Command Unit. There are two Universities and two Further Education colleges within the county.

South Central Strategic Health Authority
NHS Oxfordshire is part of the NHS South Central Strategic Health Authority (SHA) region, which includes NHS Trusts in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The South Central SHA was established on 1 July 2006 by amalgamating Thames Valley SHA and Hampshire and the Isle of Wight SHA.
